‘But can a bee be said to be or not to be an entire bee when half the bee is not a bee due to some ancient injury?’
My head was full of these songs when I was an impressionable youth. I vow to pass them on to the next generation. Possibly replacing ‘I love him carnally’ with ‘Stung me on the knee’. For the first couple of years anyway..
Great piece of glitchy vocal techno from Super_Collider, the pairing of Cristian Vogel and Jamie Lidell. Such a good name, I wish I’d thought of that. Not many posts from 2002 so far. What was I up to? A lost year!
The LFO thing kind of passed me by in the 90s so this was the first Gez Varley track I came across. Definitely the sound of being underwater in the year 2500. One of the sweetest basslines around and it doesn’t even appear until 4:10. Some back catalogue digging may be in order.
The hardcore sound perfected by Ellis Dee, Rennie Pilgrem & two other guys, one of whom is called Richard and looked an awful lot like Dieter Meier from Yello. See second from right in the picture below..
In 2003 Breakage released a 12” on the awesome Bassbin records, one side was called ‘So Vain’, the other ‘Mars’. Both tunes were well recieved and right up my street at the time. In 2004 he mashed them both together and came up with this. Needless to say my ears and brain were in a happy place. I love the dubwise sound from around this time.
